The Great Hall in Parliament Buildings was the back drop for a special ‘Hope and Harmony’ evening of music, testimony and stories, marking October’s international day for the eradication of poverty. Organised by The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly – Mr Edwin Poots MLA the evening gave an opportunity to shine a light on the tremendous work happening in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Those in attendance heard from keynote speaker, the Rector of the Christian Bilingual University of Congo (UCBC) Dr Honoré Bunduki, who offered powerful insights and heartfelt stories from the core of Congo Initiative’s mission. Charity Chairman, Dr Femi Akinlabi also provided evidence of more transformative work nearly two decades on.

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Mr Edwin Poots MLA said, “To mark the international day for the eradication of poverty it was important for Stormont to show its support and we were delighted to host the Congo Initiative at our Hope and Harmony event.

Congo Initiative is equipping the rising generation in the Democratic Republic of Congo through education, changing culture and focusing on ethics to eliminate corruption. Congo Initiative have helped over 1000 Congolese students graduate across a variety of specialist subjects through the Christian Bilingual University of Congo and it was our pleasure to welcome the speakers from this life-changing Christian charity”.

David McAllister – Congo Initiative UK, Chief Executive remarked, “It was a true honour to participate in and attend this inspiring event. We were deeply moved by the outstanding performances of the New Irish Arts Orchestra and Choir, whose music filled the Great Hall with a sense of worship, unity and hope. It was a fitting evening to share the meaningful and long-lasting work of Congo Initiative and we are so grateful for the opportunity to do so.
